Venezuelan Bollos Pelones Recipe

This is a delicious recipe that is prepared with a dough for arepas, but it is not formed as an arepa but as a dumpling. Additionally, a ground meat is prepared to serve as filling for each dough ball, placing some meat inside and then simmered in a tomato sauce.

Ingredients
  

For the preparation of the dough

  • 3 cups Warm water
  • 3 cups Precooked corn flour
  • 1 pizca Salt

Ingredients for Tomato Sauce

  • 1 cup Tomato Sauce
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 pizca Oregano
  • 1/2 unit Chopped green paprika
  • 2 unit Chopped red tomatoes
  • 1 unit Chopped medium onion
  • 1 pizca Salt
  • 1 pizca Pepper

Preparation of Tomato Sauce

  • Put a frying pan over medium heat and grease it, when it is hot place the chopped onion and stir well without letting it burn. Then add the other ingredients: paprika, tomato and spices. Stir well. Finally add the water and the tomato sauce, let it cook for about 10 minutes and it is ready.

Dough Preparation

  • In a bowl of adequate size add the cups of water, salt to taste and little by little the corn flour. Stir while adding the flour so that no lumps form.

  • After adding all the flour, we start to knead with our hands until we get a consistent but soft dough.

Preparation of the buns

  • Once the dough is ready, we begin to form dough balls to which we will open a small hole to place the ground meat.
  • Carefully add the meat and close, shape into a ball and set aside. We must be careful not to break them, if necessary we cure them with more dough.
  • Once all the balls are ready to cook, we prepare the pot.

  • Place a pot over medium heat and add the sauce. Then, being very careful not to damage the dumplings, place them in the pot with the sauce. Cover for better cooking.

  • After about 7 minutes, uncover and remove the balls from the pan and pour sauce on top of the balls. If you can turn them well, otherwise leave them as they will also cook if they are covered.
