  • 1 tbsp Salt
  • 2 1/2 cups white corn flour (arepa flour)
  • 1 tbsp edible oil

For the filling

  • 2 cups Texturized soybeans
  • 2 cups Water to hydrate according to package directions
  • 1 unit vegetable meat flavor broth
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 unit medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 unit bell bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp Cooking oil
  • 1 unit Salt to taste
  • 1/2 tbsp Sugar
  • 1 unit Seasoning to taste (paprika, cumin, ginger powder, ground chili)
  • 1 unit Optional for stuffing: avocado and homemade mayonnaise

Dough preparation

  • In a bowl, hydrate the white corn flour by adding water and salt. Mix well until a homogeneous consistency is obtained. The salt will help bring out the flavor of the arepas.
  • Continue mixing and kneading the dough with your hands or a wooden spoon. Gradually add more water if necessary, until you obtain a soft and malleable dough. Make sure there are no lumps and that the dough has the right consistency to form the arepas.
  • Take portions of the dough and form balls of the desired size. Then, flatten each ball to form the arepas, giving them a round and flat shape. Heat a lightly greased skillet or griddle and cook the arepas over medium-high heat until golden brown on both sides and cooked in the center.
