Arepas are a delicacy and are eaten equally in Venezuela and Colombia. But this cheese arepas recipe comes from Colombia. The main idea is to take advantage of the rich combination of arepas and cheese, filling these from the same preparation of the dough, adding more cheese to form them and once ready add more cheese.
The first step is to place the water in a large bowl that allows to knead comfortably. Add 2 tablespoons of butter and the salt. Stir well.
Then add the flour and grated cheese. To prevent lumps from forming in the flour, it is advisable to add little by little and stir until it is ready to knead.
Knead for several minutes until a consistent but soft dough is obtained.
Start forming the balls of the same size to create the arepas. A trick to make them more spectacular is to add cheese inside the bag of dough, making a hole that we will cover later.
Once the arepas are formed, we put them to cook in a pan, frying pan or griddle. Let them cook for about 6 minutes per side and they are ready to eat.
