Make this Spinach Arepa recipe! It's Venezuelan cuisine at its finest. Don't let the lack of a corn flour dough put you off. Try it, as it makes these arepas healthier, since spinach is added to replace some of the corn flour. Enjoy your freshly baked, homemade Spinach Arepas with Vegetables or Cheese Recipe.
The first thing to do is to blend the spinach, once selected. Place the water in the blender and then the spinach, proceeding to blend completely.
Then place the blended spinach in a mixing bowl, add the salt and little by little the corn flour, mixing to avoid lumps.
We start kneading until we obtain a consistent, soft and non-sticky dough. Divide the dough into equal portions and form them into balls.
With both hands and with circular movements we shape the arepas, pressing a little to flatten them.
Place over medium high heat a budare or greased frying pan to grill the arepas. Cook on both sides for approximately 6 minutes, if we want them more toasted we leave a little more.
Remove the arepas from the pudding, add butter to taste and fill with whatever you like.
