My grandmother is the queen of the arepa llanera. I don't know if it is a regional recipe or a family tradition that has been passed down to the women in our family. But for as long as I can remember, my grandmother has stuffed arepas with carne asada and served them at every party.

I love arepas because they are usually eaten at any time of the day and that makes them the perfect snack. Plus, of course, eating them is incredibly delicious, you can fill them with whatever ingredients you want. But an arepa is not complete without meat. In this case, my favorite filling is "Carne Asada", a type of beef cooked outdoors on a grill.
Arepas have a deep Venezuelan and Colombian cultural heritage. They are made with ground corn flour, water and salt; most of the time they are also filled with beef or pork. The key is that the dough is thin enough to be cooked in a skillet called a comal. This pan will give them their crunchy texture on one side only.
