Arepas stuffed with yellow cheese

Arepas are South American corn cakes made with cooked ground corn and water, mixed with a little salt. They can be eaten as an appetizer or snack, but also as breakfast or lunch.
They are filled with a variety of ingredients ranging from mild to spicy or sweet, and sometimes with both. The cheese arepa is one of the most popular.

Ingredients
  

  • 4 Tazas Water
  • 1/2 cucharadita Salt
  • 4 Tazas Corn flour
  • 200 gramos Yellow Cheese

Instructions
 

  • Place the water in an appropriate sized container, add the salt and stir.
  • Start adding the flour little by little and mix with a fork until you get a lump-free dough. You can let it rest for a few minutes.
  • Knead until you get a consistent dough, wetting your hands if necessary or adding more water. Divide the dough into 4 equal portions.
  • Form balls with the 4 portions, open a hole in each ball and add the yellow cheese. Now cover the hole and make circular movements with the dough ball, you must press more and more to flatten the dough and you can form the arepas.
  • Place in a budare or skillet over medium heat, about 6 minutes per side and ready to enjoy these delicious arepas.
